Foundation Studio Models

Studio tutors: Helen Day and Phil Burns

First year of architecture school comprised of new vocabulary, material experimentation and grasping the idea of designing through ‘space’. Back then, our models were an exploration of the potentials of the negative space in our bedroom. At that point, my introduction to architecture was rather bizarre and dream-like.

Our models were sculpted in the following: timber prioritising the horizontal circulation, plastic prioritising the vertical circulation and metal prioritising the vertical circulation. Afterwards, these models were embedded into a landscape that would connect with each other.

Our messiest but one of the liveliest moments in first year.
